The 400 Blows:

What is it?

The ‘400 Coups’ Festival is much more than just a celebration: it is anunmissable event that forms part of Montalban’s identity, with its roots in a historic event. Just as was the case to mark the 400th anniversary of *The 400 Blows*, this year’s celebration will be a true cultural event that brings the town’s streets to life. This iconic festival aims to attract thousands of visitors, who will come to experience a unique atmosphere blending tradition and modernity.

Did you know?

In September 1621, at the height of the siege it was enduring, the town of Montauban came under heavy cannon fire from the royal artillery. These memorable salvos from the royal cannons live on today in the collective imagination of the people of Montauban through the historical legend known as ‘Les 400 coups’.

During the ‘400 Coups’ festival, you’ll be able to enjoy, amongst other things: parades of extras, musicians, dancers and jugglers in costume; theatrical performances in period costume; dance demonstrations set to the music of yesteryear; a grand equestrian and fire show; historical performances featuring falconers and fire-eaters; a wolf parade, wooden games and traditional games, a swashbuckling show, a cavalcade featuring the float of the Queen of the 400 Coups, projection mapping, sound and light shows, and many other surprises.

It is on thePlace Nationalethat the excitement will reach its peak. Entirely decorated with coats of arms and decked out in red and blue, on Saturday evening after the cavalcade it will host a showfeaturingfire, falconry and equestrian displays. The Fête des 400 Coups is much more than just a festival; it is a vibrant celebration of the city’s identity and vitality. Whether you’re a long-time resident or a visitor passing through, this event promises to create unforgettable memories.
