Architecture and Heritage Interpretation Centre
With a breathtaking view over the courtyard of honour of the Ancien Collège, the Centre d’Interprétation de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine is déploie behind the large windows of the first étage.
A place for exhibitions and culture, the CIAP is also the headquarters of the guides, who tell you the secrets of the town with passion during their guided tours.
Permanent exhibition

Montauban: Portrait of a town

Explore the great milestones in the town’s history, from its foundation in 1144 to the present day. The reception area opens onto four floor plans, providing an insight into Montauban’s urban development over the centuries. Don’t miss the scale model of the Protestant town that was besieged by Louis XIII’s army in 1621. The tour, which includes objects, paintings, sculptures, models and panels, then takes you through the major stages in the town’s history and the key features of its heritage. You’ll be all set to discover Montauban, a city of art and history!

A children’s area offers a number of games to help children learn about history and heritage in a fun way (chase game, mory, dominoes..) as well as a reading corner.

CIAP exhibitions

Afterwards, immerse yourself in the urban development of Montauban, between the walls teeming with history of the permanent exhibition.

Take advantage of your visit to meander through the backdrops of the temporary exhibitions, which change according to the themes and current events. Get to know a monument, a district, take a behind-the-scenes look at restoration sites, or even the city’s contemporary developments.

The best way to cover the Cité d’Ingres and its trésors ? Follow the guide! Let yourself be lulled by the unforgettable comments and anecdotes of the guides conférenciers. From the unmissable “Laissez-vous conter Montauban”, à the festive “À la santé de la Place Nationale”, via the’unusual “Visite en kayak”, the CIAP offers you a rich and varied programme of guided tours all year round.

The CIAP's missions

As an administrative department of the town of Montauban, the CIAP is true to its vocation of sharing and passing on heritage, notably with the organisation of workshops for children, guided tours but also work on the preservation and collection of Montauban’s buildings and heritage data. His many activities, carried out with passion, have earned the town the Ville d’art et d’histoire (City of Art and History) label since 1998.
