Architecture and Heritage Interpretation Centre

With a breathtaking view of the main courtyard of the Ancien Collège, the Centre for the Interpretation of Architecture and Heritage unfolds behind the large windows on the first floor.

A venue for exhibitions and cultural events, the CIAP is also the base for the tour guides, who will enthusiastically reveal the city’s secrets to you during guided tours.

Permanent exhibition

Montauban: A portrait of a town

Explore the key milestones in the town’s history, from its foundation in 1144 to the present day. The reception area features four maps that illustrateMontauban’s urban development over the centuries.

Be sure to take a look at the model, which faithfully recreates the Protestant town under siege by the army of Louis XIII in 1621. The exhibition, which combines artefacts, paintings, sculptures, models and display panels, then takes you through the key stages in the town’s history and the defining features of its heritage.

You’ll then be all set to set off and explore Montauban, a city of art and history!

EXTRA TOUCH: A CHILDREN’S CORNER

A dedicated children’s area offers a range of games designed to help children discover history and heritage whilst having fun ( treasure hunt, memory game, dominoes, etc.) , as well as a reading corner.

The CIAP’s remit

As the administrative department of the city of Montauban, the CIAP remains true to its mission of sharing and passing on heritage, notably through the organisation of workshops for children and guided tours, as well as its work on the preservation and collection of Montauban’s heritage buildings and data.

Its wide-ranging activities, carried out with great passion, have enabled the city to hold the ‘City of Art and History’ designation since 1998.
