Orpheus and Eurydice: Mythological Trances - Opus 4
"We will go to the Underworld, against all rationality, to perform miracles."
Orpheus – musician, poet, and revolutionary – meets Eurydice. They fall in love. Everything should go their way… but the young woman’s death will shatter both the future and the present.
Timelessly relevant and profoundly rich, the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, a tragic and impossible love story, highlights the clash of generations. It pits a generation convinced of the need to overthrow the existing order against the previous generation, the guardians of that order… But is it truly a conflict? Or is it, above all, the representation of a life cycle?
Following their productions Ulysses and Penelope, a tale of an impossible return; Medea and Jason; and Telemachus in search of his son, the Voraces company continues its journey into the heart of Greek myths with “Mythological Trances.”
In this fourth work, music takes center stage. This choral piece, performed by nine actors, singers, and musicians, intricately blends words and music. On one side, the chorus, an orchestra of the Underworld, is boisterous and offbeat. On the other, the world of the gods. Between the two, the magical and supernatural music of Orpheus reminds us that art can do anything: charm nature, soften the gods, open the gates of the Underworld.
