Description
The incredible story of Ambroise Vollard, a young man from Réunion who came to Paris for his studies and went on to become a legendary art dealer, attracting the future giants of modern art as early as the late 19th century.
Possessing an extraordinary instinct and a formidable business acumen, Ambroise Vollard assembled the greatest modern art collection of his time. It was a veritable treasure trove that, following his mysterious death in 1939, changed hands repeatedly—with parts of it vanishing under tragic circumstances—and continues to this day to fuel numerous lawsuits and unexpected twists. This extraordinary odyssey, set against the backdrop of early 20th-century modern art history, plunges us into the upheavals of World War II—particularly in the Balkans—takes us through the Cold War, and brings us right up to the present day, spanning Paris and Belgrade.
