Description
For this month of June, the members of the Reading Circle have chosen to discuss a short novel by the Quebec author Jean-François Beauchemin, Le vent léger, published in France in 2025 by Folio.
Book Presentation
“He had always written what he believed to be a treatise on wisdom, but which in reality was nothing more than a long, celestial, and melancholic poem with, at its heart, a great, contained storm.” Autumn 1971, in a small village in the Gaspé Peninsula, in the heart of the Canadian wilderness, Enzo, Zelda, Arthur, Elliott, Zeno, and Leonard divide their time between walks in the hills with their goat, Ringo, imitating birds, and visits to the farmer-philosopher, Bertin. But the sky darkens when their mother falls ill. Busy around her like lanterns, the children secretly unite against her grief. The simple joys of everyday life mingle with profound questions about the absurdity, but also the wonder, of existence…
Open not only to Confluences members but also to anyone interested, the Confluences Book Club meets monthly to discuss a book chosen by the participants.
