Description

Come and meet the author of *Le Quintette de Montauban*, a historical novel centered on a remarkable episode of the Occupation in our city—a story involving threatened artworks, the Resistance, and lives turned upside down.
What brought the *Mona Lisa* and an eight-year-old Jewish girl to Montauban in 1942? This is one of the mysteries at the heart of *Le Quintette de Montauban* (The Montauban Quintet), the debut book by Charles Berkovits. Weaving together the intertwined lives of his own mother—then a child—a bishop who admired Pétain yet became a Resistance fighter, René Bousquet, and André Chamson (the curator tasked with protecting the Louvre’s masterpieces), the author crafts a narrative based on historical events that explores the intersection of memory, art, and courage. Book signing from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the bookstore, followed by a talk and Q&A with the author at 6:30 PM. Free admission. Large free parking area available.
