Dear cinema
For Jean-Claude Gallotta, cinema was a school of observation and a magnificent training that naturally nourished his work, through encounters, exchanges and collaborations.
To share the traces of this presence, the choreographer chose to address a series of letters to filmmakers, including Federico Fellini, Anne-Marie Miéville, Leos Carax, Nanni Moretti, Jean-Luc Godard, Nadège Trebal, and Raoul Ruiz.
On a bare stage adorned only by light, the choreographer's voice takes on a confiding tone.
Just as the pieces My Rock (2004) and My Ladies Rock (2015) paid homage to the music that shaped Jean-Claude Gallotta's career, Cher Cinéma evokes his intimate relationship with the seventh art, without, however, borrowing its images or music. Conceived as a poetic journey, an invitation to imagination and sharing, this new creation prioritizes words and movements to summon memories.
