Exceptional sports facilities

Montauban boasts impressive sports facilities, suitable for all sports and all levels. The town is constantly investing in its facilities to provide you with facilities of exceptional quality, enabling athletes to train in optimal conditions and strive for excellence!

The Centre of Excellence in Sport (CES)

An athlete incubator

The CES, the town’s new sports complex, is reaffirming its status as a ‘Land of Sport’ by welcoming elite athletes and high-potential athletes.

This exceptional sports complex offers a wide range of facilities, including six rugby pitches dedicated to training and matches, changing rooms, weight training rooms, recovery areas (with a cold-water pool and sauna), treatment rooms, video analysis rooms and communal areas.

A training centre, designed to support a future bachelor’s degree programme in sports science and technology (STAPS), will include classrooms and meeting rooms, flexible spaces and a 120-seat conference hall.

Supporting athletes by providing them with an environment conducive to sporting excellence: this is the CES’s ambition.

The athletes at this centre help to promote the city’s sporting image, with ambitions at departmental, regional and even national level, thanks to the ‘High-Potential Athletes’ (AHP) and ‘Elite Athletes’ (AEE) programmes, which cater for more experienced athletes.

AHP athletes benefit from a range of support arrangements and a charter that guides them through every aspect of their development, from their academic and sporting careers to media training, for example.

Athletes also receive medical care tailored to the intensity of their sport, as well as comprehensive support for their social and academic success. Thus, throughout their sporting careers and at every stage of their development, progression or transition, AHP and AEE athletes are supported and guided.

The Jacques Chirac Sports Centre

This new complex comprises four areas dedicated to different activities: gymnastics and acrobatics, combat sports, team sports and wellness.

With a floor area of 10,000 m² and 3 hectares of outdoor facilities, it offers two weight-training rooms, padel courts and a football pitch open to the public.

The Georges Pompidou Stadium

A national athletics track

A facility that is now unique in the region. The new track, the largest in Occitanie, follows the same route as the old one but now has nine lanes on the main straight, eight on the secondary straight and eight on the loop, compared with six previously.

Furthermore, the area of the jump and throw zones has doubled, enabling the facility to obtain national-level certification from the federation.

Specialist equipment

The Ingréo Aquatic Centre

One of the largest aquatic centres in France, it comprises six indoor and outdoor pools, a water slide and a Pentagliss, covering a total area of over 2,700 m², as well as a wellness area with a sauna, hammam, jacuzzi and fitness facilities.

Enjoy swimming whatever the weather thanks to the indoor competition pool. This 25-metre pool, with its eight swimming lanes organised by ability level, allows swimmers to train in complete peace of mind. A 50-metre outdoor Olympic-sized pool, also featuring eight lanes, is available for you to swim beneath Montauban’s magnificent sky. Whether it’s front crawl, breaststroke or butterfly, at Ingréo, swimmers have all the space they need to perfect their technique!

Sapiac Stadium

The referee at Tescou!

During the 2024 off-season, the Sapiac Stadium, which has a capacity of 9,300, underwent a major refurbishment to ensure that every spectator feels right at the heart of the action. A brand-new artificial pitch promises a thrilling spectacle, two standing areas allow fans to get as close as possible to the action, and a new South Stand offers 920 additional seats, as well as 14 exclusive boxes for an unrivalled VIP experience.

Playing at Sapiac is an unforgettable experience for all former players. Between the fans’ fervour and the chants of ‘Allez Sapiac!’, the whole town buzzes to the rhythm of its club. If you’re in the stands, you’re bound to hear chants urging the referee to ‘jump into the Tescou’, the stream that runs alongside the stadium and through the Jardin des Plantes. Make no mistake: this isn’t unsporting behaviour on the part of the supporters, but rather an unforgivable refereeing error!

Set in 16 hectares of landscaped, green countryside to the north of Montauban, the sports complex comprises a football ground with three training pitches and two main pitches (the Jean Verbeke Stadium).

It also features facilities for tennis (11 indoor and outdoor courts), archery and mountain biking, as well as a dog track.

Located in the Roseraie Park, these facilities offer everyone the chance to enjoy outdoor sports.

Whatever your age or ability: skateboarding, cycling, rollerblading, BMX, scooters… and even balance bikes.

It covers 55 hectares, set in unspoilt countryside amongst the centuries-old oak trees of the Prat de l’Estang.

Designed by Yves Bureau, this 18-hole course is the longest in the region and its layout offers a level of difficulty suitable for all golfers.

A historic venue hosting horse races and equestrian competitions. It features a sand-surfaced trotting track 1,120 metres long and 20 metres wide, with a 300-metre straight.

It also has a grass gallop track 1,250 metres long and 15 metres wide, with a 350-metre straight.

The water sports centre is situated in a lush green setting, just 5 minutes from the historic centre of Montauban.

Close to all amenities, it is linked by a safe footpath to the Port Canal, a marina and a leisure and relaxation area on the Garonne Canal.

The River Tarn, which flows through the town of Montauban, is directly accessible from the centre and offers 9 km of peaceful, sheltered boating.

Olympic-style indoor climbing with Climbzone.

Over 80 routes and boulders for all levels, regularly updated.

A 15-metre speed wall meeting international standards, open to everyone.

In urban areas

In town, set off to explore accessible and pleasant routes for your training sessions:

The banks of the Tarn offer a peaceful, straight path, ideal for a gentle jog, with minimal elevation changes and a natural setting by the water’s edge.

The cycle path running alongside the Montech Canal to the Port Canal allows you to run by the water’s edge, in an area dedicated to joggers, cyclists and walkers, away from motorised traffic.

Montauban’s green corridors combine vegetation, a variety of surfaces (tarmac paths and unpaved trails) and a relaxed atmosphere: an ideal setting for alternating between active recovery and more intense training sessions. Fancy an easy route? Several loops are regularly cited as the ‘daily routes’ favoured by locals.

In the countryside

Set in the heart of the countryside, for runners seeking natural surroundings, varied terrain or trail running:

The Grand Montauban trails offer routes ranging from 2 to 17 km, organised by theme (wildlife, flora, archaeology) and perfect for combining exercise with exploration. With elevation changes, forest paths, wide trails and singletrack to choose from, depending on your preference – this is an excellent opportunity to vary your training and have fun.
