Summer is the perfect time to (re)discover Montauban under the warm sunshine. From June to September, we invite you to take part in a series of guided tours that will immerse you in the history, art and culture of our beautiful ‘Pink City’. From the 17th to the 19th century, Montauban was adorned with mansions that bore witness to the city’s exceptional economic boom at that time. Accompanied by a tour guide, you will step inside these beautiful residences to discover the charms of their inner courtyards.

From the leafy paths of the Jardin des Plantes along the canal, crossing from one bank of the Tarn to the other, let yourself be captivated by the charm of the landscapes whilst discovering a rich and varied heritage. Our tour will feature sculptures, paintings and architectural features, all of which evoke the history of the city and its suburbs.

CANORAFT – A TOUR OF MONTAUBAN ALONG THE RIVER

17, 24 and 31 July, 7 and 14 August at 6.30 pm

Set off on a unique tour of the River Tarn accompanied by a tour guide and a sports instructor. This trip, starting from the Sapiac jetty, will allow you to discover the recently renovated Sapiacou lock, paddle through the kayak channel for a thrilling experience, pass under the arches of the Pont Neuf and Pont Vieux, and admire the birds on Île de la Pissote. An active tour combining nature and heritage!

A WONDERFUL ESCAPE IN THE GARDEN

Have you been to the Jardin des Plantes before? Or have you never set foot there? The CIAP invites you on a unique walk to explore it. With a wandering spirit, your senses alert and a keen eye, come and have fun discovering its unique features and curiosities. As you wander along the paths and through the green spaces, its history will unfold before you.

SOPHRO-VISITE: AN UNUSUAL ENCOUNTER

A walking tour and sophrology session in the city centre led by Martine Boone, a tour guide trained in sophrology. Meet at the tourist information centre

The CIAP invites you to discover Montauban from a different perspective. Learning to see… nothing is truer than with the help of sophrology. This unique event will allow you to breathe, slow down, get a better feel for your surroundings, be at one with the monuments around you for a moment, and immerse yourself in the past whilst reconnecting with the present.

SUMMER EVENINGS

SCULPTURES, JAZZ & DANCE, OR ART IN MOTION

18 July and 29 August at 6.00 pm

Set off to discover the sculptures that adorn Montauban in the company of dancer and choreographer Virginie Baïet-Dartigalongue, accordionist Grégory Daltin, clarinettist François Pascal and a CIAP tour guide. Moving from one sculpture to the next, the musicians will treat you to an original jazz repertoire, allowing the dancer to bring these works of bronze, stone or metal to life. A timeless experience that might just make you want to get moving yourself by the end of the tour!

The CIAP invites you to take a fresh look at the city. As night falls, the monuments don their evening finery, the terraces come to life and the streets gradually empty. Ingres was one of the most sought-after portraitists of his time. Particularly attentive to the beauty and refinement of materials, he was able, better than anyone else, to depict jewellery and attire, much to the delight of his models. The works on display, alongside textiles, accessories, jewellery, engravings and catalogues, will allow you to discover not only the painter’s interest in fashion, but also the social and economic context of his era, as well as the influence his paintings have had on designers.

A DIFFERENT WAY TO EXPLORE

THE SECRET MIB

Come and discover the parts of the museum that are usually hidden from view and take a journey back in time. First, delve into its depths, from the medieval rooms connected to the Old Bridge to the city’s former prisons, then take a secret passage and let yourself be guided through corridors and staircases, until you finally reach the attic of this venerable palace.

SAVING JEWISH CHILDREN. AN ETHIC OF RESISTANCE IN MOISSAC

Meet at the Espace Perbosc

On 5 December 1939, the Prefect of Tarn-et-Garonne requisitioned the house at 18 Quai du Port in Moissac to accommodate the refugees flooding into the department. He entrusted its management to Shatta Simon and her husband Edouard, known as ‘Bouli’, who quickly transformed it into a children’s home. Through a thoughtfully curated exhibition, visitors can discover their story and how they organised the rescue of nearly 500 Jewish children from across Europe, with the support of the local authorities and the local community.

COMMEMORATION OF THE LIBERATION OF MONTAUBAN

GUIDED TOURS

MONTAUBAN DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR

19 August at 9.00 am

Step back in time and immerse yourself in the history of Montauban during the Second World War. Occupied from 1942 onwards following the removal of the demarcation line, the town endured some dark times. This guided tour offers you the chance to discover not only the daily lives of the local people but also the acts of heroism carried out by the local Resistance.

THE STATUES OF GLORY

19 August at 6.00 pm

Set off to discover the memorials erected in the wake of the various conflicts of the late 19th and 20th centuries. Whether masterpieces or simple memorial stones, they are dotted throughout the city, from the courtyard of the former secondary school to the Cours Foucault, and their powerful symbolism reminds us of the context in which they were created.
