The Victor-Brun Natural History Museum invites the public to explore the fascinating diversity of mammals through its new exhibition "On the trail of mammals".
Appearing on Earth during the Triassic period, approximately 220 million years ago, mammals have continuously evolved and colonized a wide variety of environments. From this long journey have emerged more than 5,000 current species, including Homo sapiens. Perhaps because we are among them, mammals are now among the most observed and studied animals.
They all share common characteristics, such as nursing by females, but above all, they form an exceptionally diverse group. Ingenious hunting techniques, camouflage abilities, astonishing reproductive behaviors, and varied diets: each species tells the story of a unique adaptation strategy.
