Buying local

Montauban markets

a matter of course

Montauban’s markets are much more than just places to shop, they’re the beating heart of our town, where conviviality, authenticity and a passion for local produce come together. Every week, the colourful stalls come alive, offering a variety of fruit, vegetables, cheeses, meats and artisanal specialities, all from our beautiful region.

Consuming locally means supporting farmers and producers who put all their know-how into quality and sustainability. By choosing local products, you are helping to protect the environment, reduce your carbon footprint and promote the local economy. What’s more, you’ll have the opportunity to discover unique flavours and seasonal produce, while forging links with the people who grow and produce them. The Montauban markets are an invitation to rediscover the pleasure of eating healthily and responsibly. By visiting these meeting places, you’ll be contributing to an ethical and sustainable marketplace, while enjoying an experience rich in change and discovery. Come and explore our markets and let yourself be seduced by the richness of the Montalbanais terroir.

All your senses on alert

In our markets

Springtime in Montauban is a time when nature is on the alert and markets are bursting with colour and flavour.

<A special low-cost shuttle bus will take you to the market from Eurythmie’s free car park.

local producers welcome you with a smile, proud to share their local produce with you. Head to the delicatessens brimming with juicy fruit, crunchy vegetables and artisanal specialities, creating a veritable sensory palette that watches over your taste buds. Let yourself be intoxicated by the sweet scent of seasonal strawberries, the freshness of green asparagus and the aromas of aromatic herbs. Can you smell that delicious cheese aroma coming on? Can you see a tall lady with her boater in the distance? Come closer, it’s Hélène from Ferme du Ramier. She’s waiting to let you taste her raw milk products, straight from her maturing cellar, where more than 6,000 cheeses are matured. We recommend the Printanier. As its name suggests, this is a seasonal cheese: tender and soft, it is as flowery as the season that characterises it.

Wednesday market

Cross the Tarn and head into the quartier Villebourbon, towards the place Lalaque. The Wednesday morning market is just as friendly, but more intimate, with the same values of sharing and quality. It’s also a great opportunity to find fresh, local produce, while enjoying the warm atmosphere of the square.

Get cooking

When you get home, give free rein to your culinary creativity and turn those treasures into tasty dishes. If you’re short of inspiration, we’ve got the tasty recipes from the market to help you out!

Sunday?

Why not have an impromptu picnic!

Spring is here, and with it the desire to enjoy sunny days outdoors. It’s Sunday and you want to have a picnic, but the fridge is empty. Don’t panic! Montauban has some great places to put together your spring picnic. Our recommendation? Go shopping at Chez Leonard (seasonal picnics)! You’ll get a real treat just looking at the tales!

He is Thomas, your gourmet and gourmand advisor, who tests all the products to check the taste quality of each one so that he can give you the best advice. What he learns most of all is how to make friends. His shops are packed with carefully selected seasonal specialities. Whether you’re looking for mature cheeses, traditional charcuterie, crusty breads or seasonal fruit and vegetables, Thomas will guide you towards a carefully selected range of products. Let yourself be inspired and leave with the most beautiful of baskets!

But who is Léonard? He’s the cat … he tests and approves all the recipes, savours the lid of yoghurts and even if he prefers meat, he sometimes indulges à a good soup of fresh vegetables from Thomas.

Summer's best after-market

On thelast Saturday of the month à 11:30am, after you’ve done your shopping, come enjoy a free musical évasion in the courtyard of the Ingéacute;e Bourdelle museum.
