Marguerite Canal, composer - Presentation proposed by the Conservatory
Marguerite Canal (1890-1978), a composer from Toulouse and the second woman to win the Prix de Rome, will be the focus of this brief pre-concert talk. Trained at the Paris Conservatory, she left behind a sensitive and refined body of work, deeply rooted in the tradition of French art song.
This introduction will provide a deeper understanding of her career and aesthetic, before the concert that follows, which features several of her compositions.
