Istanbul! Founded as Byzantium around 658 BC, the city took the name Constantinople when, around 330 AD, Emperor Constantine moved the capital of the Roman Empire there. On March 28, 1930, it officially became known as Istanbul. Located on the Bosphorus Strait, which connects the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara and also separates Asia from Europe, Istanbul is famous for its landmark buildings, such as Hagia Sophia, the Sultan Hamam Mosque, the Grand Bazaar, Topkapi Palace, Leonardo da Vinci's bridge, and the vibrant spectacle of boats on the Bosphorus. Beyond the museum city—from Ottoman palaces to vibrant neighborhoods—director Arthur David takes you on a journey to discover a multifaceted Istanbul, a place where traditions and cultural diversity intertwine, and focuses on the daily lives of those living along the Bosphorus, one of the world's most heavily monitored and frequented straits.
