The month of transition is still revealing the last sun-drenched tomatoes, sweet figs and grapes from our vineyards. Courgettes, aubergines and peppers still grace the shelves, while the first pumpkins and early apples appear.
Autumn is settling in with its butternut squash, pumpkins and pâtissons. Roasted chestnuts fill the markets, accompanied by apples and pears from our orchards. Forest mushrooms – ceps, chanterelles – testify to the richness of our undergrowth, while fresh walnuts make their appearance.
The month of autumn abundance reveals butternut squash, Jerusalem artichokes and parsnips. Witloof apples, fragrant quinces and orange persimmons sit alongside crisp endives and leeks for winter soups.
