The Double Inconstancy by Marivaux - General audience Duration: 1h20
Once upon a time, a prince fell in love with a beautiful young village girl. Since he's allowed every whim, he kidnaps Silvia, who is furious because her heart beats for Harlequin. The court then conspires to help the prince separate the chosen one from her betrothed. Leaving no room for chance, this plot, made of indiscreet oaths and false confidences, will test one sincere love only to allow others to triumph. This "defeated" couple will give birth to two, thereby creating a double inconstancy!
But this will not be a charming pastoral comedy. Rather, we will witness "the elegant and graceful story of a crime" (according to Jean Anouilh). It's not certain they'll live happily ever after...
