As part of the World Day Against Child Slavery - General audience Duration: 1h20
Zianigo, Veneto. 1886.
When Bakhita meets Illuminato for the first time, she doesn't even look at him: she keeps her eyes lowered and her shoulders hunched, as she does with all the men she's encountered for so many years.
When Illuminato meets Bakhita, he sees what he's never seen before: a Black woman. A slave.
When Bakhita meets Illuminato for the second time, she dares to look up. For that voice speaks neither of anger, nor of violence, nor even of authority.
Despite their differences in language, social status, religion, age... Despite the barrier that rises between their respective histories—she crossed Africa on foot amidst so much violence while he never left his parents' land—these two will recognize each other as brother and sister.

LEARN MORE
Inspired by the true story of Bakhita (1869-1947), a young Sudanese slave with an extraordinary journey to liberation, Rapture reveals a friendship that becomes the cradle of a path to resilience. A show that plunges us into the heart of a human and spiritual rebirth.
