BERTRAND BELIN
SONG
For 20 years, Bertrand Belin, a complete artist—author, composer, performer, actor, writer—has been building a unique body of work where his inimitable voice and finely crafted lyrics occupy a central place. Since Tambour Vision (2022), the artist has been exploring a wide range of mediums: film (working with the Larrieu brothers and Valérie Donzelli), theater, literature with his new book La Figure, and of course, music, a field where he displays the full finesse of his art. His voice, his distinctive phrasing, a blend of French chanson and rock, have left their mark and earned him a loyal following!
For his new studio album, Watt, Bertrand Belin has chosen to explore new sonic landscapes, to pursue and push his research even further, to delve deeper into his own style. The piano, majestic on some of the tracks, adds an extra touch of grace to the skillful blend of electronics, guitar, and drums found in his most recent albums, but presented here in a new light. Strings appear here and there, lifting the harmony and the vocals into a variety of moods. The relationship is always one of earth to sky and vice versa. The themes of this new album are existential: our place, our perspectives, our movements, our loves, our attentiveness, our impulses, our fears, and our questions. Bertrand sings even more than usual, and his expansive prose gives new dimensions to his legendary and paradoxical minimalism.
