The name of Bressols could come from the Gallic name Brictus, successor of the bishop Saint-Martin of Tours.
This name would have become “brès” (cradle in Occitan) to which the suffix-ol would have been added. During the 19th century, archaeological excavations made it possible to find some cut flint, Celtic axes and ruins of Gallo-Roman villas!
The name of the town can also be compared to that of the Brazols family, co-lord of the town.
