In 2016, the city of Montauban obtained the classification of “Tourist Municipality” by prefectural decree. As a continuation of this approach, the City has just been classified as a “tourist resort”, a real recognition, thus promoting frequentation of the municipality, allowing its development as well as the conservation and renovation of its heritage.
Awarded for a period of 12 years, the classification of the municipality of Montauban as a “Tourist resort” represents a real opportunity for attracting the territory but also a significant interest in increasing tourist and economic activity.
Until now, Montauban has been classified as a “tourist town”, the first level of classification according to three criteria: offering a classified tourist office, tourist activities and accommodation capacity intended for a non-permanent population.
Only municipalities implementing an active tourist reception, information and promotion policy as well as the development of their natural, cultural and sporting resources throughout the year can be set up as classified tourist resorts.
