Exhibition - 20 years of archeology in Montauban (2000 - 2020) The cities we inhabit are like a thousand sheets of brick, earth, wood and stone. With new constructions, destruction, modernization or redevelopment, each era has made its contribution to the urban landscape that we have before us today. Montauban is no exception; If a whole section of the urban heritage has disappeared on the surface, many strata of this past remain preserved under our feet. They reappear on the occasion of work carried out in an old center for which the archaeological diagnoses were carried out. The sites of the Place Nationale, the university center, the Quai Poult or the alleys of the Emperor and Mortarieu, to name a few, thus constitute windows open to the past which allow us to deepen our knowledge of the city : what was there before the foundation of Montauban and how did the city evolve? How have the banks of the three rivers been exploited? Are there remains of the impressive fortifications that protected the city until the 17th century? Relive 20 years of archeology in Montauban and immerse yourself in the history of the city. Construction footwear and helmet not compulsory. Exhibition produced in partnership with the National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research (Inrap)
