The Lantern Festival is a traditional Chinese cultural event dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907). It has become the most popular winter event for young and old alike, with a program of activities including the installation of splendid lanterns, various on-site entertainment and walks through traditional markets. It is based on the traditional skills of Zigong City (People’s Republic of China), a prefecture city of Sichuan Province with a population of almost 3 million. It is the originator of the Chinese Lantern Festival, which was later adopted in Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai. As a historical and cultural city of China, it is rightly called the “City of Lanterns.”
Never equaled, the Lantern Festival will therefore settle in Montauban in a new version, still monumental and dreamlike… What to amaze visitors who from nightfall will discover on the 5 hectares of the Cours Foucault 2500 giant lanterns, a forest of pandas, mythical animals, beautiful historical monuments
