From December 1st, 2022 to February 5, 2023, Montauban will host the Festival of Lanterns, which will be installed in the heart of one of the main parks of the City: hosted by the city of Gaillac from 2017 to 2020, and then in Blagnac in 2021, this event that has become a phenomenal popular success in a few years will be installed in the Cours Foucault in 2022.
What is the Lantern Festival?

The Lantern Festival is a traditional Chinese cultural event dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907). It has become the most popular winter event for young and old alike, with a program of activities including the installation of splendid lanterns, various on-site entertainment and walks through traditional markets. It is based on the traditional skills of Zigong City (People’s Republic of China), a prefecture city of Sichuan Province with a population of almost 3 million. It is the originator of the Chinese Lantern Festival, which was later adopted in Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai. As a historical and cultural city of China, it is rightly called the “City of Lanterns.”

Never equaled, the Lantern Festival will therefore settle in Montauban in a new version, still monumental and dreamlike… What to amaze visitors who from nightfall will discover on the 5 hectares of the Cours Foucault 2500 giant lanterns, a forest of pandas, mythical animals, beautiful historical monuments
