400 YEARS OF THE 400 COUPS

Live the legend

Legend tells us that Louis XIII, exasperated by the Montalbanese resistance, would have had 400 cannon shots fired in the space of a few hours, on September 19 or 20, to terrorize the population and obtain its surrender.

The Montalbanais, reckless, would have made a banquet during the cannonade as symbol of their determination and their resistance to the King. Since then, this episode is invoked as the origin of the expression “faire les 400 coups”.

Do the 400 strokes

Montauban will celebrate from September 16 to 22 the 400th anniversary of a major event in the history of the city of Ingres: the siege of the city by the royal troops of Louis XIII in 1621, at the origin of the legend. For this historic anniversary, a program that is both cultural, festive and popular has been concocted!
