In 2016, the city of Montauban obtained the classification of “Tourist Commune” by prefectural decree. In the continuity of this process, the City has just been classified as a “Tourist Resort” true recognition thus promoting the frequentation of the commune, allowing its development as well as the conservation and renovation of its heritage.
Granted for a period of 12 years, the classification of the town of Montauban as a “tourist resort” represents a real opportunity for the attractiveness of the territory but also a non-negligible interest in the increase of the tourist and economic activity.
Until now, Montauban was classified as a “tourist municipality”, the first level of classification according to three criteria: to propose a classified tourist office, tourist activities and a capacity of lodging intended for a non permanent population.
Only the municipalities implementing an active policy of reception, information and promotion of tourism as well as the development of their natural, cultural and sporting resources throughout the year can be classified as tourist resorts.
