The human in the living

Cultural, Conference in Montauban
  • Wednesday 12 October at 6 p.m., conference-debate "Humans in the living"

  • Humans gradually appeared in Africa between - 4 million years and - 400,000 years ago. The biodiversity of oceanic and continental ecosystems is much older: our planet is around 4 billion years old. Man has behaved singularly throughout his history, to the point that today he has become the most powerful evolutionary force on our planet.

Humans gradually appeared in Africa between - 4 million years and - 400,000 years ago. The biodiversity of oceanic and continental ecosystems is much older: our planet is around 4 billion years old. Man has behaved singularly throughout his history, to the point that today he has become the most powerful evolutionary force on our planet.
Some milestones of this “singularity”: the domestication of fire, the invention of culture, the domestication of animals, the invention of the steam engine and the thirst for fossil fuels at the end of the 18th century. The atomic bomb in 1945 will launch a frantic race for "progress", constantly accelerating, coupled with an unprecedented demographic boom since we have multiplied by 4 the number of individuals in 80 years.
Recent work on the incredible interrelation between microorganisms, plants and animals is laying new foundations for ecology. More than ever, this research teaches us that it is high time to replace greed with humility, respect, sharing and foresight.
Let's definitely accept that we belong to biodiversity and that we need other species. And find ways to re-harmonize with the living.
