The Animated // Robert Lapoujade & The puppet cinema

In 2023 the Les Animés festival dedicated a day to animated cinema in animated painting by the Montalbanese painter and filmmaker Robert Lapoujade. This year the event will look back on the prolific and innovative work of the artist, notably through two of his works: “The Comedian Without Paradox” and “The Memoirs of Don Quixote”. An exceptional INA documentary on the artist at work will be broadcast in theaters as an introduction. You will also discover previously unseen restored images of his films presented by the CNC restoration team, and the restoration work on heritage films carried out by the National Center for Cinematography and Animated Images. An exhibition of archival documents and photographs as well as an original puppet from the films will be presented by the artist's daughter. Numerous communications and round tables bringing together researchers, historians, artists and filmmakers will weave during the day the links between contemporary artistic productions and the artist's contribution to puppet animation cinema.

The evening will end with a preview screening of the latest film by the author-director of “My Life as a Zucchini” Claude Barras, “Sauvages” – official Annecy 2024 selection, in the presence of one of the film’s presenters.
