A true child of the ball, Joseph Franck Keaton, born in 1895, started on stage at the age of 4, in his parents' comic music-hall number.
Renamed "The Three Keatons", the family troupe became famous throughout the United States thanks to its little prodigy who became an acrobat and stuntman. The nickname "Buster" was given to him by a magician who, witnessing the child's spectacular fall down the stairs, exclaimed: "What a buster!" (What a daredevil!).
