The Ritals of François Cavanna are the Italians who came to France to work. Son of an Italian mason and a French housekeeper, Cavanna remembers his 400 blows with his friends in Nogent-sur-Marne, the cinema, running away, girls, the love of books. He remembers his mother not showing her feelings. From his little child's hand in his daddy's, full of cracks and chatterton.
In remembering her childhood, Cavanna reminds us of ours.
