  • The Montauban film lovers club is organizing a film club session with the film LA GRANDE ILLUSION by Jean Renoir (France, 1937) with Jean Gabin, Pierre Fresnay, Dalio, Eric Von Stroheim, Dita Parlo and Carette. NB, duration: 1 h 50. During the 1st World War, French soldiers, of various social origins, find themselves prisoners in a German fortress. Two of them will manage to escape and go to Switzerland thanks to the help of a peasant woman in love with one of them. This is the film that earned Renoir an international reputation. President Roosevelt, having seen the film, declared "All the Democrats of the World Must See This Movie". As for Goebbels, he tried to destroy all the copies. Renoir's point was, however, simple: "To show that even in time of war fighters can remain men". Released a little before the start of the Second World War, this idealist and pacifist film appeared as a warning. It may be with "The Children of Paradise" the most famous film of French cinema. Restored film projected on blue-ray support. The film will be presented by Georges Robert.
