  • Exhibition From the end of the 1940s, many French avant-garde artists are trying to redefine their modes of expression. Gathered under the name New School of Paris, they seek to give new bases to an art that they want to witness to the total overhaul of society. It is in this context that Pierre Brache and Geneviève Bonnefoi discover the Abbey of BEAULIEU-en-Rouergue in 1958. Enlightened amateurs of contemporary art, collectors and friends of many artists from Paris after the war, they see this monument is an ideal playground to sublimate canvases, drawings and sculptures. Thanks to the ingenuity of Pierre and the strong character of Geneviève, after 13 years of work, the abbey became the first Contemporary Art Center of Midi-Pyrénées. At the same time, their collection is complete. Begun at the National Monuments Center in 1973, this collection will be presented permanently from 2021. It is delivered to us today as one of the most important for the art of the Thirty glorious, homogeneous whole of works of great names of the painting like Hartung, Fautrier, Dubuffet, Michaux, Mathieu, Manessier, Vasarely, Vieira da Silva or Hantaï. The BEAULIEU Abbey exhibition offers a preview of some of the masterpieces that will constitute the Brache-Bonnefoi permanent collection, some of which have never been shown to the public, others not have been only very rarely. Open Tuesday to Friday from 14h to 17h Saturday and Sunday from 14h to 18h Closed on 11/12/13 April and May 1st / 21st / 22nd
