  • SEGA / MALOYA - In residence of creation from 18 to 21/2 Julian Babou is a musician of Reunion origin, but who grew up in Brittany. Very young, he follows his father from rehearsals to concerts, and as a teenager, follows his own path emerging in hip-hop. He writes, raps and composes, plays different instruments but stops on the electric bass. He moved to Reunion for 8 years, where he discovered jazz and played in many local sega and maloya bands, emblematic music of the island. He accompanies Ras Natty Baby, and Ziskakan, then later The folk troupe of Reunion, Nathalie Natiembe, Zong, Françoise Guimbert and Ti-fock, among others. He plays for RFO, in the chain orchestra, teaches at the CNR, and finally discovers Toulouse, where he now resides. He met Magyd Cherfi, Mouss and Hakim, and many others, toured with accordionist René Lacaille, and created the trio La Face Cachée des Sous Bois, with Ferdinand Doumerc (HeadBangers, Pulcinella) and Sonny Troupé, there already 10 years. Today, after many concerts under his name, he presents an album of sega and maloya, "Nai Nai" made of personal compositions and texts in Creole, which he revisits the genre in his own way. This is a rereading of the very personal Maloya, music based on songs and percussion born during the period of slavery and prohibited until very recently, and séga folk music, more "pop" ". The rhythms discussed here are a declination and are sometimes mixed with South American, African or Western colors.
