Herment vivant - exposition

Exhibition at Montauban

04.05.19 au 25.05.19 herment exposition maison crieur.jpg
  • On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the death of the poet, novelist, jazz musician and ceramist from Montauban Georges Herment, the City, Daniel Daynes-Herment and François-Henri Soulié (nephew and grand-nephew of the poet) propose to the public to explore some of the many facets of this unclassifiable man with multiple talents and exciting life. Books, photos, driftwood and ceramics testify to a flourishing artistic life and draw a living portrait of the poet from Montauban who - among others - was the friend of Pierre Reverdy, Jean Dubuffet and Julien Gracq. He also introduced Jean Malrieu to poetry and invited Hugues Panassié to Montauban. His collection "Seuil de terre" obtained the Antonin Artaud prize in 1964. The City wishes to pay homage to this Montalban artist (where a dead end bears his name) to celebrate the "burned poet" which Julien Gracq wrote: "How to doubt that this hidden life, this secluded life, was a whole life in poetry? (Preface to Matière Promise, 1973). The exhibition was designed and produced by the association "Le Théâtrophone". The book "Living Herment" written by Daniel Daynes-Herment will be released on the occasion of this celebration.
