- From 14/12/2019 to 07/06/2020 With more than 4,507 works, the Mont-Albanian drawings fund is the largest in the world devoted to the artist. Presented in relation to objects from his personal collection, the drawings collected in this exhibition are among the most beautiful leaves of the museum. This set gives a glimpse of the immense place he gave to the line drawn in his aesthetic design. "Drawing is the integrity of art," he kept telling his students. The various techniques gathered (graphite pencil, black chalk, heightened white, watercolor ...) testify to the ingenuity of this master virtuoso hand.Associated with the rich collection of ancient constituted by Ingres throughout his life the drawings presented also reveal the different functions that the painter attributed to them, often using them as memory tools in which he fixed the forms of objects and visualized works, an inexhaustible source of inspiration. Others serve the preparatory research necessary for the development of his paintings and some finally exist as pure graphic wonders, such as those portraits that made his celebrity.
